KENTWOOD, MI – Like most schools across the country, Kentwood Public Schools saw many of its students fall behind academically and socially as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Nearly three years later, students are still struggling to reach pre-pandemic academic achievement levels. Kentwood students also continue to recover socially and emotionally from the isolation of remote learning. Related : Michigan students' declining test scores are ‘clearest picture yet' of pandemic learning loss To try and reverse the dramatic effects of the pandemic, the school district has implemented a multifaceted approach to student recovery that includes intervention, robust summer school programming, after-school learning, instructional coaching and professional learning for educators, and a brand-new intensive 'high dosage tutoring' effort.
